7AC Tail

My airplane project has a data plate that says 7AC. The airworthiness certificate says 7AC. It has a 65 horsepower engine. But, my tail section looks like this.

I think this is a DC tail? I've heard that there are stc's available to put this tail on a 7AC, to go to a bigger engine. I don't have the log books to verify this stc, if there ever was one. I do know that this tail has been like this since at least 1988. And, its been annualed with this tail. Any ideas on what happened to this tail or how I can go about making sure its legal?

First off it sounds like you need to get a copy of all the paperwork from the FAA on the airplane. For around $10 you get a copy of everything that they have on the airplane from when it was made.

Now, that may not be all the work preformed on the airplane, but its everything that has been submitted to THEM on the airplane.

You are still OK. The type certificate shows it's approved on the 7AC and 7BCM under note #618. Down toward the end of the equipment listings. The note shows print #4-678. I show the dorsal fin as 7-792. You can get it at www.aeronca.com. Todd Trainers site. The 4-678 may be an installation drawing. If you find it somewhere let us get a scanned copy for everyone.
