Hello all! My name is Joe Craig and I'm new to this forum. Just purchased a ground-looped Champ that needs a little fixin' up! Right gear was pulled off, wing tip damaged, wooden prop destroyed. Kind of a shame. This plane had less than 15 hours since total restore! I'm going to start with the wing. The 2 spars are cracked at the tip, so I'm in the market for some wood (spars that were damaged that I can get a couple of pieces from?) Plan to splice the tips, repair the bow, and recover the outside 4 feet of the wing. Haven't opened the belly yet, so that remains a mistery. I've got a C-90 that I'd like to put on it, but I need the "long mount" motor mount to accomodate the starter & generator. Also looking for a couple of 5 gal. wing tanks. Anybody out there with some of the parts I'm looking for???

Hi Joe,
You probably already know this, but be sure to check the spars along the entire length and especially near the strut attach double plate and also pull the wing attach plates at the butt ends to check for cracks. With a ground loop and the wing dragging those are the spots that tend to take the most stress. But cracks can occur any where for that matter.
Good luck on your project! Looks like fun to me. What engine did it have?

Got your PM. I'd be interested in a spar that I could 'whittle' 2 tips out of. Maybe 2 pieces to ship easier. I'll have to measure up the wing and see how much I need.
I don't think I've seen too many L16's. Sounds like an interesting project.
I am so overwhelmed every time I look at the workmanship of this Champ. Somebody had alot of time on their hands, or really knew what they were doing! Or both! Clean, straight, uniformitive. It has a 65 in it right now. It's a 'bare bones' Champ. I'm going to indicate the crank, and if good, throw a prop on it (wooden again!) and get it flying. My intension is to put it on Edo 1400's with the 90 hp.
