Door Hinge

Post by 7DCDRIVER »

I have a question about the bottom door hinge on 1946 7ACs. the top hinge has two parts that come off the fuselage, but the bottom one appers to only have one. Was that by design, or is this a problem unique to my aircraft?

Thank goodness for that !

My inspector snagged mine this time round, I waffled on and he accepted it.

Must be how it was built.

I assume you're talking about the metal pieces that are welded to the fuselage door frame. The Champs I looked at, including the one in my shop right now, have two 'projections' on top and one on the bottom. Funny you should mention it because I'm at the point right now trying to get a door that someone "rebuilt" several years ago to fit into the door frame. Fits like a 'saddle on a sow'. Whoever tore this thing apart ( the whole aircraft) literally tok everything apart including removing the door hinges. We bought a pair from Safe Air, but hasn't been much help. I'm going to try a different door and see if that fits better (friend has a L16 in pieces). Anyway.......onward and upward!!

In the Service Manual that I have for 7A Aeronca Champion, the door post are part number 1-2278 only three required. Two on top and one on the bottom.
Hope this helps.

7-450 calls out 2 tabs on top and 1 tab on the bottom. So, you're all good there.
