New Aeronca video on youtube (who are they?)
That is from a series of videos done by Ray Johnson of Marion, Indiana. Ray owns a gorgeous Grand Champion 11AC. In this video, he's interviewing Paul Gould, who restored the 11AC in the video. Paul has since sold the airplane and now owns the airplane restored by Bob Hollenbaugh, serial number 11AC-2, or "Old No. 2" This airplane is the first production prototype 11AC and has some features that are different than all other 11-series Chiefs. Believe Paul's working on restoring another Chief. Paul is a wealth of information regarding the Chiefs. Unfortunately, he's not a computer user. Hey, I thought the Chiefs were supposed to be faster than the Champs??
Not to start any flame wars, but our Champ is a Lot faster than 84mph..

do you have a tired 65 hp champ ? apples to oranges stuff. for the same hp a chief will pass a champ on anyday except maybe mothers day. had to get that in. bernie
My Champ (65 hp. with 43" bite on the prop) will make 'somewhere' between 83- 85 MPH give or take a little. Seems to depend on the day. After flying a Cherokee for 25 years I had to set my GPS for MPH instead of Knots as it was too depressing 
to watch.

While not trying to start any kind of disagreement, our Champ is a lot faster than 84mph. A few weeks ago, I was returning back from the Charlotte area, and due to a unscheduled fuel stop, I had to run the Champ pretty hard in order to beat the dark. I ran it 2500rpm, and was indicating solidly between 105-110mph. A "juiced up" engine? It does run pretty good, but its still technically a C-85. The old c-85 would nearly do as well. I typically plan on 90-95mph running at something like 2300-2400rpm. How much slower is that than a C-85 powered Chief? I'd like to know.
If you plan to attend the Middletown shindig, it will be there, transporting Gail and I (we plan to fly in a flight of two, along with Keith Parker. Keith is flying his Aeronca TAC, powered by a A-80, and its the first A-80 I ever saw.
This is my second post on this topic, I hope it lets me post it this time. I tried to post 8 times, and it keeps giving me that "invalid" thingy...
