Searching for my father's Aeronca Scout
Perhaps someone can help me. I am searching for a 1947 Aeronca Scout, which my (deceased) father owned. His name is Elwood L. Warnock from Chambersburg, PA. He won the new Scout at an air show raffle sponsored by the Chambersburg Flying Service on Labor Day, 1947. The Chambersburg Flying Service was a small airport and the local Aeronca dealer. My father flew the Scout for a couple of years, then sold it to a Mr. Jay Sollenberger, who at the time, managed another local airport – Sunset Airport. Mr. Sollenberger used the Scout as a trainer, but does not recall to whom he sold it nor does he have any records or photos of the plane. I searched through my father’s records and photographs, but came up with nothing. I spoke to the remaining ‘old timer’ pilots who flew with my father – many of them recall the plane, but have no photos of it. I have searched the FAA database and found that 100 Scouts were built and around 50 or so are still registered. I would like to see if the plane is still around and if it is available for sale. I have just starting flying lessons and to find this plane would be of great sentimental value. I would appreciate any ideas of who to contact or where to go to continue this research. Thank you. Hi Doug,
This Scout http://www.oaafly-in.com/oaawebsite85e/ ... C-136S.JPG was at our Ohio Aeronca Aviators Fly-In in August 2000. At the time, it was from Fredricksburg, PA. The N-Number is N3729E and the serial number is 11AC-S15. Look up the owner in the FAA registry and maybe it will lead you somewhere.
You might also contact the FAA registry and see if they might be able to locate some old records with your fathers name on them. They have everything available electronically now. Go to http://registry.faa.gov/aircraft.asp for contact info.
Let us know if you find the airplane and good luck with your flight training!
