Prop for 180HP Sedan

Post by Healy »

I am thinking about a prop change this winter to get a little extra takeoff performance. I am interested what others are running and have good luck with. Does anyone have one they would like to sell?

Thanks

I have a 7649 McCauley on my O-145 and trying to decide the same thing you are!

At level flight it will make about 2450 and thats it. Still trying to figure if the engine should rev to 2600 or not as is mentioned in several areas in the TCDS and on the Tach.

Was talking with Bill de Creft in Homer and he put one of Burl's seaplane props on his Sedan and he love it, said that its a major difference in performance. Evidently it has to be done with either floats or bush tires like you have due to the size of the prop.

Joe,
Isn't the 145 nearly identical to the O-300?
My 172 with the O-300 in it has an 76/52 prop and it will EASILY over rev in straight and level flight. If I remember correctly this is a climb prop for the older 172's.

Keith,

As far as I know, the two engines are almost exactly the same engine, just differences in the accy case or oil pan.

O-300

The two engines are quite simmilar, but in addition to the oil pan and accessory case, some of the O-300s have an angle drive starter. also, some have a crankshaft with 6 bolt holes and some have 8. Burl's prop STC has both a 6 bolt version and an 8 bolt.

the C145-2, through the O-300 B have the 8 bolt crank shafts

The O-300 C D and E have the 6 bolt.

The O300D can also take a constant speed prop.
