C85 oil spring

Hey all, I was just taxiing around today for the weekly warm up and my oil pressure started going nuts, after my heart stopping i calmed down and checked it out... the pressure relief spring was broken..does anybody know where I can get a new one.

Might be safe idea to piece the broken spring back together, to make sure all pieces are accounted for. Running a magnet down the filler neck and sweeping across the bottom of the oil tank is a good idea; and cheap insurrance.

Nate makes a good point (looking for broken pieces). After 50 years of working on engines from 18 wheelers on down, I've never seen a broken oil pressure spring . Weak or rubbed but never literally broken. It certainly could ruin your whole day, though.

Having said that, a couple of years after I sold my Cherokee (150 Lycoming) the new owner said the oil pressure dropped to the low side of the green or about 60 psi where it used to carry 85-90 psi hot at cruise. It wound up being the relief valve and spring that was causing the problem.

Thanks for the tips, no metal found anywhere in the tank. the spring was just rubbed shiny, and thin in the middle right where it broke. I installed it last night and have 45 lbs cold pressure.
