Cable brake & Jack

Post by leeport33 »

In looking at the axel to figure out how to jack up the wheel, I thought
I could just take the bolt out that holds the pully in place for the cable brake and thus get it out of the way and not damage it in the process of jacking up on the axel. I dont know what holds the bolt in place and if thereis a nut on the inside some place that will make it a problem to get the bolt tight again. Any expertise in that area will be welcome. My
scissors type jack will get under axel just right and I kept looking at
the axel to figure out how to use it and came up with the "move the cable
thing", but in turning the bolt a bit see that it isnt going to turn out like
I thought. I do have an old 1 1/2 ton sears jack that has a small contact
on the top side that would probably work around the cable without removal if the bolt removal is not the way to go. Thank you.

Some cut out a V in a block of wood or whatever to place on the jack and miss the cable. I just pad the top of the jack first with a thick fold of towel/cloth and have never done any damage to the cable.

Lee,
get a short piece of 2x4 (+/- 5" or 6" long) and with a circular saw or table saw cut a "channel" (not all the way thru the block)
maybe only about 1/2" deep and wide enough to accept the cable. The cable will "sit" in that channel and not be damaged by the jack,
it's what I did, you don't have to disconnect anything,...works great!

CABLE BRAKE AND JACK

Why didnt I think of that. Of course it works. I even have a block of
hard wood lying in the hangar that will work. Hey thanks for the information. I would still like to know if there is a nut in back of that plate
that holds the bolt that holds the pully, if anyone has messed with it.
Guess I will know when I replace the brakes, so its not a big deal, now
that I can rig my jack up to work. Some things that are plane as day
evade me at times. lots of times. Nice to be able to visit with smart
people. Thank you again.
