Larry,
I hope I'm right about this, but I used a 7ac firewall for my L16 project.....
Wag sold it to me! There was a sticker on the firewall that list several Aeronca models that all use the same firewall.

Maybe someone else will chime in...

Firewall

Dr. Jeff is correct, the 7AC firewall is the same as that used on the L16A. Most were modified with a bottom cutout to allow for better cooling. You might ask the folks at WagAero if they can sell you a 7AC firewall with the cutout and deflector.

I assume you have the 13 gallon nose tank. That creates the dual problem of lack of room for an original style starter and limited room behind the instrument panel. Of course the L16A did not have a starter and generator so it should not be a problem. I installed a C85-12 and added a modern compact starter (no generator) to mine under a field approval.

What was the part number for the firewall you used? The L-16 p/n is 4-607 and it doesn't come up. The drawing shows several models in the title block but all use the same number.

Tim,
I assume you have the regular (short) engine mount. Is there room to pull the new starter for service if necessary?? My L16 project has a 'dishpan' built into the firewall. The only problem is that it's aluminum which hardly seems like a 'firewall' to me considering the fuel tank is right behind it. I'm considering removing the dishpan and covering the hole with a steel plate. Probably doesn't make a lot of difference in the long run but.................. .
