I saw a picture of a Chief with a small lip that came up over the bottom edge of the fuel shut-off that prevented accidental pulling. Looks like you had to push the metal lip down and then pull out the fuel shut-off. I did not know if this was original or if added later. This looks like a good system to prevent accidentally pulling the fuel shut-off at the wrong time. Does anyone else have this on your Chiefs?
Thanks,
Todd

Its not stock. Frankly shutting the fuel off in a Chief is not easy and not something that 99% of the people would ever do accidently.

Joe,
You are correct. But the other day I was getting ready to pull the carb heat and reached without looking. I looked before I actually pulled and had my hand on the fuel shut-off. Both knobs are the same size. So, I guess the lesson is to always look and verify before action.
Thanks,
Todd

Re: Fuel shut-off safety stop
I have thought of a really cheap way of doing this although I have not done it.
Just put a sticky velcro tab (the soft fuzzy side) on the end of the fuel shut off knob and then use a velcro strap to the panel. This way to pull the fuel off you would have to undo the velcro. It will also prevent the valve from being shut off by vibration.
But it would not look good and it would also cover the knobs words which "may" be part of the legal placard that must be visible.
A bent metal tab with a hole for the shaft like the old Cessna mixture control would also work if you could make it.
Just a couple thoughts.

The bent metal tab like what you saw on the Cessnas sounds like what I saw in the Chief picture. Thanks for the info.
