When we restored our Chief we did not add a cabin heater, as it did not have one when we got it. I flew last winter without any heat and made it pretty good. I was wondering if the cabin heat put out enough heat to warrant installing or just keep as is?
Thanks,

Re: Cabin Heater
The big question is what type of exhaust do you have?
If you have Hanlon Wilsons then yes you can feel it.
If you have the "Y" pipes with no mufflers on it, then it will warm the top of your left toes, thats it.
Either way its not going to blow you out of the cockpit but could help if you have the HW exhaust system. Considering how far South you live, it might help.

Re: Cabin Heater
Joe,
Thanks for the reply. I do just have the "Y" pipes with no exhaust[sounds good]. That was one reason I wanted to get some input from the group to see if it was worth the expense & effort to install. Sounds like I will just keep on the long-handles!
Thanks again,
Todd

Re: Cabin Heater
The other alternative is a Cessna 150 exhaust system. I have a 337 for the one on my Champ. Puts out lots of heat. I assume it's possible to get a 337 also for a Chief.
I have copies of the paperwork that I can send if someone needs. I'm much further north (NW Wisconsin) so enought heat is more of a factor from October to April or May. On the other hand, I've been shutting down for the winter as it's just too much work to get the plane in and out of the hangar by myself with skis.......fun though .

I would like to get a copy of a 337 for the cessna exhaust. Do you have a copy of them you could send electronically? Mike
Re: Cabin Heater
Mike,
Thanks for the heads up. You just need to come south for the winter & leave your skis in WI unless you can get them to work on water.

Hammermike,
Send me your email address to mikejudyberg@centurytel.net and I'll forward you a scanned copy.
Todd,
We manage to sneak away to San Antonio for a month or so during the winter. Only problem is that it cuts down on my L16 restoration time.
