Cleaning Oil Residue from fabric

I removed the floorboard today and the seat looking for a suitable mounting spot for my new whip antenna when I noticed a think coating of oil along the bottom of the fabric.

Any recommendations for cleaning solvent, etc?

Not sure how it would work on the inside of fabric, but I've used Simple Green Aircraft on my Citabria and was happy w/ the results. Be careful though, full strength it will cut through grease and even remove the top oxidized layer of paint.

Would Avgas hurt the fabric? I've seen mechanics use it to degrease an engine effectively, but I don't know if it would harm unprotected fabric although I'd expect the fabric to be resistant to fuel.

I'll give diluted Simple green a try -- I assume you'e using the regular SG form wal mart and not the "Aviation" version?

I used the "aviation" version. Not sure what the exact differences are, but supposedly the regular stuff will corrode aluminum. I do know it will ruin anodized aluminum (learned the hard way many years ago on an automotive air cleaner).
