Wing rib gussets

During restoratin of the right wing in my 7AC, I note in AD 48-04-02 that damaged ribs are to be repaired by use of gussets. The AD lists factory kits Aeronca P/N 5-185-2 and 5-190-2.

Does anyone know if these exist and, if so, where they may be obtained?

Doubt that any Aeronca factory kit is still available but those numbers on your post correspond to the factory drawings listed under "wing aileron bay repair" and "rib wing main repair."

Just looked and we at the NAA have copies of both of these if you need them, or you can download them from Todd Trainor online.

I am rebuilding two wing with new spars for my project.

Guys, I don't have any drawings, but I had a number of the 5-185-2 rib repairs on my Champ. As far as I can tell, it was a replacement nose rib for in front of the front spar. I haven't looked at the old ribs in a while but I think there was just the nose part and some form of webs that would extend past the spar that you would rivet onto the rear part on the original rib.
Whoever did the repairs on my ribs did a terrible job riveting, they used AN and pop rivets, whatever was laying on the bench at the time. Some of the rivets were driven with a 5 ton press and others were just barely driven, and bent over.
I think I could have done a better job if I stood back 10 feet with my eyes closed and thrown a hammer at the part.

Here's what a 5-185-2 part looks like, disregard the little junk brackets they used to connect the two pieces.

Take a look under 'restoration' and "Lloyd Thompson's L16B" around the bottom of the first page. Dave Johnson shows a couple of examples of 'gussets' and just below that Mike Utley (used to be with Wag- Aero) has some part numbers of gussets available from Wag. Is this what you're looking for?? I would have copied it to this reply but didn't know how to attach it.

As far as I know, no one knows what happened to Mike. He was a real asset and everyone I know of was not happy to see him leave. Its been a couple of years now.

No idea what happened to Mike Utley other than he's no longer at Wag-Aero. It did help a lot with our Aeroncas as he monitored this site and often jumped in with the answer to a parts question and/or what's available. Also, was good about emailing answers. Tom (??) is kind of the 'go to' guy down there now. The outfit I really miss is Safe-Aire and Dan and Joe. Wag-Aero does have a very large stock of the Safe-Aire parts not advertised in the WA catalogue. I especially found that out when working with L16 metal parts. You almost have to go to the sales department though for confirmation of availability if it's not listed in the catalogue.
