Anyone familiar with this Chief for sale on ebay. It is not far from me.
"Up for auction is a 1941 Aeronca chief ca with an o-200 engine that has been rebuilt and has very few hours on it. Also included in this auction is the original engine that came with this aircraft that has not be rebuilt so it is in the original conditon. Therefore this auction is for 2 engines and the airplane.
I have complete logs for the original engine that came with this plane which is a lycoming o-145-b2 and I also have the logs for the airframe. This aircraft has been completely restored with new materials except the frame, spars, and ribs are all original parts from aeronca but the rest of the airplane has been fully restored. Firewall aft is complete.
I am selling this as a project because firewall forward has undergone some modifications the first is obviously the o-200 engine and then the cowling has been modified to fit the o-200. There is no airworthiness certificate because the Faa cannot approve the engine change easily. You could put the original engine on this aircraft and have it inspected by a DAR and then you can get the airworthiness certificate for it. There are no major mechanical problems with this aircraft.
It has an cockpit controllable ivoprop 2 blade with the same amount of time as the engine which is very low. Both airplane and engine and prop have less than 20 hours on them. I have also added an extra fuel tank to compensate for the gas usage by the o-200 into the left wing. This aircraft is located in Rogers, Arkansas. This aircraft is in flyable condition but must be trailered off of the airport due to no airworthiness certificate. Pickup is the responsibilty of the buyer I will not deliver or ship this item.
I will require payment in full when buyer comes and picks this aircraft up. This aircraft has always been hangered and i have owned this airplane for 10 years. This airplane was the one aeronca hung up in Rockefeller center for the U.S. army to bid on as a spotter for WW2 and I have the paperwork to prove that this is the aircraft. This is a historical aircraft that is very nice and beefed up. It can be flown as is or brought back to the original condition for a very nice original chief.

Sounds interesting and hope that someone saves it.
Re: $13,000 1941 Chief with two engines on ebay
Had a nice phone conversation with the seller a few days ago. He seemed like a nice young man though not well versed in airplane stuff. He admitted freely that the airplane had been recovered by himself without any thought of inspection or sign off. He has also done some engine work on the 0-200 (he is not a mechanic) that has also not been inspected or signed off nor has the installation. This aircraft has been flying for about 20 hours without an Airworthiness Certificate because he can't find anyone who will sign anything for him. He is aware that the ultralight propeller may not be legal but he was hoping to get approval to fly in the Experimental Category. If you look closely at the photos you can get some idea of his mechanical abilities. The door frames are covered in Plexiglass so he can see better but really he rather enjoys flying with the doors off. Too bad he had to carve up the cowling to fit the new engine installation. I forget what it was he said that he had done to make the aircraft stronger. It seems like it was something under the upper wing fabric if I recall. Give him a call, his name is Troy. I think you will enjoy the conversation, and like I said, he seemed like a very nice guy.

May be a nice guy but after what you told us, the airplane will have to be totally restored, or recovered. Sad to see and wish he had done it right with a A&P helping.Dudley wrote:Give him a call, his name is Troy. I think you will enjoy the conversation, and like I said, he seemed like a very nice guy.
