Intercom recommendation?

I'm in the market for an intercom for my Champ. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Non panel mount would be my only option.

I use the Pilot brand 2 place intercom in both Champs. It works well with muffs on the mics, hard to squelch with out them. Next time I will add a wire from the radio battery to power the intercom rather than using batteries.

Pauls comment about powering everything reminds me. I went to a "Batteries Plus" store the other day and bought a UPS (unterruptable power supply) battery for around $25 or so. I plug the Chief's radio, GPS and intercom into this small battery and it worked very well.

It has never run down and I charged it once every few weeks just to keep it topped up. Just stick it down on the floor and it stays there. Was planning on velcro'ing it to the floor but just not needed so far.

Has anyone use the Sport 200 panel mounted intercom by Sigtronics? My mother-in-law got me one for Christmas and I was curious.....

I've used a Sigtronics portable unit for years and am fairly happy w/ it as far as portables go. I still use it in the L-3 and I can also say that the Sigtronics people are great. I had a mic issue w/ my David Clark's and they really helped.

I bought a cheap Marv Golden panel mount on eBay for my Citabria. Turns out it was made years ago by PS Engineering. I absolutely LOVE it. I looked into their portables but as I recal, they were expensive.

Someone gave me a used Sigtronics about 8 years ago. Still works fine in my Chief.

I have it's "cousin" (Sigtronics, SPA-400 TSO) and it's GREAT with Dave Clark (10-13.4) headsets.
when you hear "pros & cons", it would be nice to know which headset they're using.
(have you ever heard a really nice stereo system with cheap speakers??)

I need a recommendation for a battery powered intercom. It will be used in a 1946 7AC CONV Champ that will have only a starter motor and a battery that needs to be recharged. I will be using two battery powered Lightspeed Zulus with standard plugs and a battery-powered ICOM A-22 for communication. The intercom I'd like should accept a push-to-talk switch, allow stereo input (so I can plug in my MP3 player to listen to music); good noise canceling capabilities; and as an option, an audio output in case I want to record radio transmissions or commentary from pilot or copilot. Thanks.

OK. I've done some homework and right now the two most likely candidates are:

AVCOMM AC-2EX Portable Intercom; and

Flighttech ITC-2001-ENRI 2Place Portable Stereo Intercom

If anyone experience with either of these portable intercoms, please let me hear from you.

No experience with those particular models, but I'm using the Flighttech ITC-401 ENRI 2-place system and am very happy with it.

I can't make any positive recommendations, but I certainly have a negative one.

I ordered a FlightCom 403MC a couple years back, largely because it was small, had a music input, and Spruce recommended it. Got it all installed, and the music sounds like The Chipmunks from 40 feet away. I finally track someone at the company down, and get

My technician says that the 403mc needs a modification done to it. If you would like us to do it, the cost would be $55.00 + S&H.

I helpfully suggest that I somehow understood the music input to be for - I dunno, inputting music! That got me forwarded to "tech support," who tried to convince me it would work fine - if I plugged it into a cassette player. Not having had one of those for quite a few years, I declined, and offered the suggestion that maybe they should advertise that sort of thing BEFORE I plunk down the cash for their POS.

They did finally send me a new "modified" version, for free. Same music quality as the old, but this one had terrible sound quality in the headphones. So, being too tired of the whole situation to start over, I reinstalled the old one, sent the "new" one back, and I'm still flying around with earbuds under my headphones.

I highly recommend absolutely anything but FlightCom.
