How the heck did Aeron-i-ca get started?

There's so many people I've run into over the years that pronounce and spell Aeronca as Aeronica.
I always politely but firmly point out the correct way to pronounce Aeronca. Where or how did this get started.
I've found that most of the people that do this are somewhat oldtimers. Maybe most of the younger people haven't even heard of Aeronca.

Anyone have any ideas on this?
I probable shouldn't talk about old timers, as I'm "almost" an old fart myself and too rapidly sliding towards geezerdom.

I am one of those people who mispronounce Aeronca.

I seemed to have learned it the wrong way initially. And now even knowing the correct way to do it, I still seem to mispronounce it about half the time.

I'm a recovering Aeronica zombie on the 12 step road to recovery. I think the best step is to fly and talk about Aeronca's as much as possible. And I'm doing the best I can afford to do right now! Wish me luck!
