I have been looking at the new FAA requirements which are scheduled to be mandatory in 2020. So, I am trying to rephrase in terms of what we CAN'T do. See if I got it right. So far, most of my info has come from May 27 Avweb.
If you don't have the equipment, for what ever the reason, i.e., too expensive and/or non electical equipped aircraft including antiques, ultra lights, light sport aircraft and powered parachutes.
1. You will not be able to fly within the 30 mile veil of 8 identified airports, all class B, period, full stop. Just guessing here because I have not seen them named yet but suspect them to be: Washington, JFK, Memphis, Chicago, St. Louis, Denver, San Francisco and LA. Anyone know for sure?
2. Can't go to or above 10,000 MSL, excluding 2,500 AGL. Period, Fullstop! I assume the 2,500 ft. AGL exclusion is for high elevation runways.
3. Can't go over Class B or C airspace but can go under it up to 2,500 ft. AGL., provided it is not one of the 8 identified airports. I assume this means below their airspace, ie, the inverted wedding cake.
4. Can't operated at or above 3000 ft. MSL in the Gulf of Mexico.
5. Did not see any exclusion for non electrical equipped aircraft.
If anyone has additional info or corrections to my understanding of the new 2020 FAA requirements, please put it out for discussion.

Look further I think you will find that aircraft that were certifed with no electrical system are exempt.

Doug,
I hope you are right and you should be right. I'll keep looking. Surely, the FAA did not screwed up.

Grumps IS right. Not only that but these little ancient trainers were made to fly in a different world. Who wants to go into heavy traffic anyway? NOT ME! Fly out in the country!JP

Let's see........in 2020 I'll be 81 years old. Hope I'll still be around and flying. I might have the L16 finished by that time. I'm not worried about breaking 10,000 feet. I had a hard time getting my 65 horse up to 3,000 today........a rocket, she ain't.

Re: new ADS-B
I'm with you Mike. It's just something I'm not going to worry about at the moment. Ten years is a long time for much to change between now and then. And 10 years in FAA years is usually more like 20 by the time all the cost overrun occurs, the contractors delivered equipment doesn't work, AOPA does their stuff, on and on. And my Aeronca doesn't fly in those places anyhow.
