Airbox

Post by mtw »

I was looking at a Taylorcraft with a 65 Cont like my Chief and noticed that there is a pipe coming straight down off the airbox exiting the lower cowl. My airbox has the hole in the bottom and the hole in the cowling, but no pipe. My mechanic has never said anything about this. Do I need a pipe on the bottom of the air box through the cowl?

Thanks,

There is a discussion on this topic in the Postwar Champ section. Check out "Air box question (Air Maze type)"

In a nutshell, when you aren't using carb heat the heated air vents thru the hole. If you attache a tube it vents the heated air outside of the cowling.
