Chief project

Hello: I am rebuilding two Champs and a Chief. The Chief has to go. The project includes a decent fuselage, both doors and window frames, seat , control column and yokes, rudder and brake pedals, aux fuel tank, tail feathers, floor boards, pattern quality wood bulkheads, door handles, and a few other misc small parts. Paperwork is included. No logs but clear title and airworthiness is included. Almost all parts will need some tweaking, but nothing major. I would like $3500. Thanx, Jim

Jim,

Is this a 11AC, BC or CC model and does it have the data-tag with it? Landing gear and wings are missing?

Hello Joe, It is a 1946 11ac. There are no wings, struts, or landing gear. There is no data plate. With the serial number and N number I wouldn`t think procuring one would be an insurmountable task. Thanx, Jim

The problem is not obtaining one (I have several blank data-tags) and am an A&P so I can make up logbooks after doing the inspections, but that someone else may have the logbooks and data-tag. They can then say that they own the plane, even if you have the actual bits in your possession and if the title is clear at this time.

Have heard of several cases where someone bought a "project," spent years and lots of money rebuilding it only to find that there was another person who owned the data-tag and logbooks. It was messy to say the least.

The only way around this is if the logbooks and data-tag were destroyed in a fire or the like and can be documented. It really takes the value of any airplane down when the parts are not along with the logs/data-tag. I am not saying this to try and buy it cheaper, I am working overseas for the next 2 months on a job so buying anything will have to wait for me.

That said, please try and save the Chief and hope you find a good home for it. Wings and landing gear are available for it with no problem (only takes money!) so getting it flying again should not be a big problem.

Hello Joe, The data plate was destroyed in a fire, along with the original airplane. It belonged to a friend of mine. Thanx, Jim

That helps your situation. At least this way there is not going to be someone popping up later on saying that they have a set of paperwork and tag for the airplane.
