Champs chance meeting

Here's my Champ, The Devine Sixty-nine at the fuel pumps of our home airport; Washington, Iowa. As she was getting full of 100LL another big tailed Champ dropped in. I guess those Champs just know how to find their own kind.

That would be kind of cool. Let's see, should we park them nose to nose or tail to tail? The guy I bought this from winters in Tucson; I think he had sellers remorse for some time after he sold it. He should have.

I don't know what I did to make my picture so durn big, didn't mean to. I guess I figured that most of the guys on this site were as old as me and I wanted them to see the picture without their glasses. Either that or I just 'woopsed'.

How guys, how about meeting in Middletown in 2012!

For a while after flying mine from Phoenix to Middletown I thought it might be my last time for a while but several months on I might be talked into it again!

Lets see if we can work out a trip for 2012. It's quite a trip from the West Coast and more people might go if we can organize something.

Would love to have a group of us go together, or even meet somewhere in the middle.

I met with Chris Hiatt the last time and we flew in formation the last leg, so lets try it in 2012!

I might be up for that trip too. I flew my Citabria from PHX to OSH several times, and even back to Boston and Maine once. Just a little longer in a Champ.

What are the dates for Middletown 2012?

I suppose if you guys can make it from way down there I better try to get there from here. I'd be interested in the dates also since so many things seem to be going on between June and August, I always manage one or two conflicts a season. I don't do well in hot weather either, I'd be fine with a year 'round October.

Maybe by that time (2012) I'll finally have this L16 finished and can join the flight. Actually it's goihg pretty well and I should finish painting the wings shortly. The engine is at Bolduc getting the bottom half redone and the new cylinders are stored at home. I'm hoping to 'make the air' by next summer at the latest. Work and coffee with the loafers always interfers with my time.

Am guessing that it will be the 15-16th of June 2012 but thats only a guess.

Mid June would be good; not so hot. Unless, that is, it rains like it did this year. I was starting to think about putting pontoons on the Champ.

BTW. Do any of you know Kevin Bower? I think he has my plane. Well; he has N84149 and that was my first Champ and I soloed in that plane but mine was a 7AC and his is a BCM. I'm guessing same plane with lots of mods but could be a different bird with the number transferred. Anyhow, I saw it's picture from the last convention and it won best in class. If that is my old plane it looks a bunch better now than it did 45 years ago.
