CHIEF WHEELS

Post by davesabre60 »

HI FOLKS, ON MY PREWAR CHIEF I HAVE CLEVELAND WHEELS MODLE MBA MANUFACTUREDS ON 1/4/41. MY QUESTION IS DO THEY HAVE A CONVIENTIONAL GREASE SEAL, OR JUST A FELT OR FABRIC SEAL AROUND THE AXEL, ON BOTH SIDES?
THANKS
DAVE

Dave, on the Cleveland wheels on my Champ, I don't believe there's any real grease seal at all, just the felt seal.

By the way, are you an ex, or current Sabre driver?

Dave, I saw more Sabres about 2 weeks ago than I've seen in a couple of years, down in FXE. Mostly 65's, a couple of 60's and a 40. Most of them have gone south to places like Mexico and other south American countries.
I was at a maintenance facility for Sabres, Westwinds, Hawkers and Challengers. I was going to bring a Westwind back home but it had some additional problems and we never made it off the ground for our post maintenance flight.

I got my first Type in the Sabre 60 in '88 and flew it for about a year. I always thought is was an easy plane to fly.

Dave,

You might end up having to make or adapt something. That said, many of them as the above poster said, do not have any seal on them.

Sorry we could not get together last weekend when you guys were in PHX. Gotta work sometime! :)
