carb heat cable routing

Post by PB Schafer »

I have the cable thru the firewall, but does someone have a picture of how it routes to the airbox? Where does the cable anchor? Also need to know the arm position on the airbox. I have a new shaft (non-adjustable) that needs to be drilled to the flap inside. Thanks.

Hi PB,

I am in the middle of my annual and have everything pulled apart. Send me an E-mail (rkittine at sign aol dot com) to remind me and to give me your E-mail and tomorrow I will take some pictures and send them to you as I was just working on this on Friday.

Regards, Robert

I have a non standard set up. In my chief the carb heat control knob is on the pilot's side (left side-port side) and the cabin interior heat (such as it is) is located on the passenger side.

The arm for my carb box is also on the left side.

I prefer this location as it makes more sense to keep an engine control on the pilot's side versus the cabin heat.

Anyhow. I had to make a bent arm about 6 inches long in order to properly position the cable so that it did not bind or kink the cable. My previous cable snapped because the angle was not right. So I made up this arm out of aluminum. It is angled downward and to the rear from the rear screw holding the box together. It angles down at about 45 degrees and a notch had to be filed away to allow clearance between this arm and the kidney oil tank.

If you need a picture of it I'm sure I could get one. I don't think I have one saved but the hangar is convenient to me so I could snap a pic and send it to you on e-mail.

Now it operates smooth as butter.

Thanks to you both for your offer of help. It is frustrating sometimes starting with a basket case, and not knowing how things go back together. A picture is worth a 1000 words.

Hi PB,

I just E-mailed you pictures of the Carb Heat Cable in both the On and Off Position. I also sent you the pictures of the wiring harness that you asked about. In the picture of the left side, you can see how the cable comes out of the firewall and routes to the carburetor air box. My Carb Heat control is on the left side of the panel. Hope this is helpful.

Ciao - Robert
