Who have you found to do the best job at the least cost, for a crank grind. I have used Aircraft Specialties before, and they do nice work. Seems to me that they are a bit pricey though. Has anybody else out there had a crank ground who can make a recommendation?

Mike,
I have one at ECI right now for grinding. I think it's about 200 to certify, about 250 to grind and if you go ,+020 it adds another 200 or so. check their site at ECI.aero

Thanks Paul. I wonder why they charge more for a .020 grind?

Most places supply a new bearing set with their regrinds. The .020 bearings are not common and are not cheap. jrh

Re: Crankshaft grinding?
Mike,
The plus .020 requires the crank to be nitrided. Not all small 4 cylinder cranks were nitrided, it's based on serial numbers.
The bearings used to be twice as much as the STD or +.010, but the price has come down a little bit.

Re: Crankshaft grinding?
Mike , The .020" regrind , as Paul states , requires nitriding because the grinding process
( beyond .010" ) goes through the original surface hardening of the crankshaft . Since this is a modification of the original factory specifications , it requires an STC which is included in the price by ECI .
