S7-AC float angle??

Post by Robert »

Is there someone out there that can help me figure out what's wrong with my float rigging? A little history-- I have a 7AC that had 1320's on it before I got it, I bought it without floats, after doing quite a bit of refurbishing and upgrading I decided it might be nice to have floats and knew where there was a good deal on 1320's HA! so I dragged these things home and redid them too. I thought, now I only need mounting hardware as they had Tcraft mounts on them, so I phoned Ed Peck and he sold me some rigging. Time passed and I finally got around to mounting the plane on the floats. While everything appears to be mounted correctly the angles don't look right! I phoned Ed back and we measured everything and I sent him pictures, it appears to coincide with his drawings but I measured the angle difference between the underside of the wing (using the area between the front and back spars) and the top of the floats, It's about 2deg., I expected it to be around 3 to 4degs. What the heck is going on here, am I measuring the angle of the wing from the wrong place? Is this something to do with the under-cambered wing?

I was hopeing someone with way more knowledge than me would respond but no that doesn't sound like the correct way to measure from wings. I think you have to take the wing centreline front & rear to come up with 6*(??). or use the flying attitude of the plane for 4*(??).
Question marks to indicate I'm pulling these angles from a poor memory.
Try googling Peter Cowan, he has a ton of info on mounting floats on his website.

OK, I think I've got it, I have a picture of a 7DC on 1320's that a fellow owned for 30 yrs., I phoned him and we had a good talk about his plane. I have a good side view of his plane and I've drawn a line from the stab to the prop spinner and a line on the top of the float, I've done this to a picture of my plane as well. I'm about 1 deg out. So I think I'm in business.
Thanks for your input.
