For Sale WHEELS with Tires/Tubes

Post by jkvincent »

SOLD
For Sale (in pairs), you pay only actual shipping but I do get a substantial discount at FedEx.
I also have a pair of Oleo Struts and a pair of Axles and Rudder pedal/Brake parts in other postings.

I thought I'd offer them here first...then they'll go to ebay.

I am not sure what I am looking at. I am looking for 6" Cleveland Wheels of the DHB type. I have an Aeronca 7CCM with one old DMB that requires the 500 hour inspections as per the AD and one that is a DHB, though it is actually not hydraulic and is mechanical. Are these the NON-AD wheels and if so, what it the price? Delivery would be Warwick, New York

Thanks - Bob

NON-AD'd ? ....I have no idea.
These are Mechanicals, they were mated up with the Mechanical Brakes in my other posting and working fine.
The entire assy was removed (from my Champ, 7AC conv DC) for an STC'd hyd disc toe brake install.
I just posted them and to be honest, at this point I don't know what they're worth. Make me an offer
and if sounds good....they're yours!!
Thanks, Jim

I see no numbers stamped om the outside of either wheel.
Possibly, there is a number on the inside but wheel/tires are mounted (as photo).

What's the part number of the one you're looking for ??
What's the part number of the NON-AD ??

Jim,

Look at the max weight stamped on the outer wheel half. If i recall correctly, tHe DMB wheel will be stamped "DMB" and "1000 lb" whereas the DHB wheel is stamped "1500 lb"(?).

I may be off on my stamped weights but in the neighborhood.

I see no numbers, possibly under the paint, but I don't see even the slightest indication of a number on eighter.
These are DMB's, so I'm assuming you're saying 1000 lbs a wheel?
That still doesn't answer his question about NON-AD'd ??? ...and part number?

My understanding from Bill Pancake is that the DMB (Designated Mechanical, though either can be used in a mechanical set up) is the older one requiring he inspection stipulated by the AD. They apparently have been known to crack from rough landings. The DHB - Drum Hydraulic Brake, wheels are the ones that I am looking for. So I guess these will not be the ones. With the increase to 1,500 pounds, they are not subject to the AD.

what, DMB's are older than DHB's? ....who knew? :-) The AD is just an inspection, wouldn't you inspect
the DHB's at least every 500 hrs also? I did every annual. Anyway, good luck with your search, I did see (1) one
on ebay this morning.

You actually have to take them apart, rather than just removing them and inspecting them outside. Since I teach in my Champ, I hit 500 hours pretty often, but the real advantage as they do not have a history of cracking, which the older ones have, so even with the inspection not being that bad, you then have to find a wheel to replace it when you find a crack, which is much more common on the older wheels. Hence, change it now and have less future issues.

Anyway, it's AD 48-08-02 for Cleveland wheels: 6:00 x 6 Assy. C-38500 and remove tires and tubes and inspect for cracks at the wheel flanges. Initial inspection was 500 hours and 100 hours thereafter.

I don't think Good Years would fall under this AD (of course they can still crack  )
Hope this helps.

Believe they're Cleveland Bob, as the Good Years are "puck and disk" type. These look like shoe and drum.
