O.K., I have reached the ultimate frustration level. I have a Bendix-King KX-99 handheld which seems to work perfectly except that it transmits very weakly. Ovr the last few months, I have tried to identify a repair shop which would take this job on. Obviously , I haven't succceded. Bendix King no longer supports this unit and won't even accept it for repair. I have also directly contacted three other organizations which presumably do avionics repair but, none of them are willing to accept the work either. These are places that local A&P's send radios out for repair. I even tried a shop locally which maintains and repairs State Police radio gear. They were unwilling to .work on it because it requires some kind of special certificate to work on "Avionics communication gear" and they don't have the licsences. So, here I am hoping one of you knows of a facility who would do this. Thanks for your help.

Repair facility for Bendix-King Kx 99
Re: Repair facility for Bendix-King Kx 99
Dale, Check with one of the Ham Radio stores. AES in Milwaulkee, Ham Radio Outlet, K2KJI Electronics etc. They are used to working on Hand Held Radios. The output of these radios have a low level Driver and then a Power Amplifier. If you can find a local ham, have him hool up to an SWR Power meter, and I would bet that you are getting output from the Driver only and need a new Final Amplifier devise. The part alone for these radios is usually about $40.00 plus the labor. Get a quote first as you may want to just buy a new radio.

If you find someone, pls let us know. I have two KX-99's and love them.
Re: Repair facility for Bendix-King Kx 99
I would like to say that these folks have a great track record with Bendix King products. They help me support over 200 portable radios that my Deputies carried for years. Although I have not had experience with anything but public saftey radios with them, my confidence with them is very high. Check them out.

Del,
Contacted 49er Communications. Their response was that they only work on land mobile radios.

Re: Repair facility for Bendix-King Kx 99
I was very pleased with the folks at El Paso Aero Inc. in El Paso, TX. Ask for Bill. Not sure if they will work on your radio but give them a call at http://www.elpasoaero.com/avionics.html 800-437-2376. They calibrated my old transponder and tuned up the klystron for a very reasonable cost.

Bob,
I think you got names of posters mixed up. I did make a contact with Gene and his response was that he has retired from rado(s) repair. He did give me a possible follow-up lead which I am pursuing. Sorry to not have been able to pass along your call sign but I had already made the contact.
My last previous post was for Del who also had made a different recommendation.
