New Champ owner, pick up airplane next week. Just wondering what the experienced pilots here recommend, seller uses a power winch in his hangar. $100 for a Bogert Bar or $400 for a Tailwheel Transporter is more than Santa wants to spend! Thanks

Tow (tail?) Bar

First of all congratuations on the purchase. Post some pictures when you have a chance.
For towing, try this: http://www.joea.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=5576
Not too hard to make if you're handy. If you do build it make sure you have plenty of leverage so you're not right down to the floor when you're lifting. Mine works pretty well.

Neat! I'll be sure to post some pictures, soon as I figure out how....Weather could interfere next week but I am hopeful. Going to be a 2 day trip, got hangar space reserved in Henderson, KY, for the night. That's just across the Ohio river from Evansville, IN. Going to add a lot of cross-country time to my logbook.

Congratulations on the acquisition Dave. Nothing like a cross country to get to know and love your plane. Looking forward to seeing some pictures when you get a chance.

Re: Tow (tail?) Bar
Finally got the airplane home today. Weather and schedule complications conspired to delay the delivery flight. Definately going to be looking for ways to improve the cabin heat and door seal, please don't tell me it's a hopeless cause! Recommendations are requested. I'd post a couple pictures but haven't figured that out as yet.
Also have some repair work to do. At the next to last fuel stop the airplane managed to toll backwards just far enough to hit a post. Resulted in a small ding to one of the tubes on the right elevator (thankfully not the trim tab).

Mystery of the cold ride uncovered! No heat muff on the left stack, duh! Opened up the right cowl to check oil, etc. but for some reason never looked under the left cowl, too excited with the new machine I guess.
I see new muffs are available from Wag Aero. Are hangers, or something similiar, needed for mounting?

David; I don't know where in Iowa you are but I'm based at OOA, there is also an A&P there who is a Champ guy and is restoring one now. Least wise; he say's he is, he has it all apart anyway. Make a trip sometime but let me know so I can be there and we can compare Champ stuff. There are also a couple of guys in the western part of the state with Champs who are on this board.

Sounds like a plan! I'm in Cedar Rapids and as soon as my stab is repaired (and heat muff installed) we'll get together. Dave (319-360-0029)
