Air filter media
Air filter media
Hi. Have a chief with a air maze filter. If the filter media is shot can you buy just the filter material and not the whole frame? Cheapest replacement I found was 100 bucks. That seems a lot more then I remember paying a few years back. If I need to replace the whole she-bang who sells them at theibest cost?
Re: Air filter media
Most people go with the replaceable foam filter assy from Brackett.
Re: Air filter media
(Ahem) Technically not legal on the 7AC and 11AC's but I'd say at least half the Champs and Chiefs are running the Brackett filter. At least that was my observation at Oshkosh. It's a bit of a hassle to get the Brackett filter to fit into the Aeronca box but it's possible .....don't ask me how I know
.
The Air-Maze filters are grossly overpriced and yes, to my knowledge you need to replace the whole element.

Re: Air filter media
Boris,
Put on the Air-Maze. It will go another 50 years, that makes it's cost about $2.00 a year.
Just to make this even more confusing, the air filter is not required equipment. Only the air box is required, so to install a filter would be a major alteration or possibly a major repair. It's kind of unclear in FAR 1.1 as to what "affects engine operation".
