Fly your 7 or 8 series aircraft with the door off...Legally!
Fly your 7 or 8 series aircraft with the door off...Legally!
The NAA is now the holder of STC SS33CE allowing flight of 7 and 8 series aircraft with the door removed. For info, go to the NAA merchandise page at http://www.aeroncapilots.com/NAAStore.htm and scroll to the bottom. There you'll also find a link to the form needed to order the STC.
We are now working on securing the STC needed to legally fly 11 series Chiefs with the doors removed...stay tuned!

$50..good price for a STC.
Should also mention there is a advertisement on the opening page of the Aeronca site but I think some of the wording is missing as it states "to legally operate your 7-8 series, etc. " without saying what it's for (I'm assuming with the door off).
Having said that it would be great if the NAA could pick up the various STC's so they were available in one spot.

Brian, you think it would be safe to fly a Chief with the doors off? Might have to have a training class to make sure all the Chief drivers know to stay inside the vehicle when its moving...

As a new Chief owner I resent that remark....

I've taken the doors off my KCA and the doors fit behind the pilot above the baggage compartment. Never took them off the 11AC though.
There was an STC that was held by another person that required the indemnification of the STC holder by the buyer of the STC. Be aware of this when you buy. In 20 years and countless owners you might be footing the bill for any litigation regarding the STC.

Hey Mike,
Hope you have thick skin, because with both a Champ & a Chief your going
to get hit from both sides from those dishing it out. Ha.

I'm thinking I should own one of each: Champ, Chief, Sedan but guess that isn't going to happen. I've found the Chief to be more of a problem with the rebuild/recover process. Seems like one snag after another. I finally had to have new balanced tail feathers built. The fuselage is covered so I think I'm going to get that painted and start to reassemble all the pieces before I lose them. At that point it looks like progress is being made. Wings were rebuilt before I bought the Chief but the paint job is lousy so I need to scuff/sand and repaint them. As my younger brother says "taint one ting its another"
. Fire up that Champ and come over
some Saturday morning....the coffee is always on and so is the BS.

I think I've found another instance of the balanced elevator design your chief employs. A 1966 Champion 7ECA has what looks a lot like I remember your did.

Richard.
It may be or so it seems to me after some research. I think the other was the Aeronca FC but I already have these completed and am finishing covering. Shortly after I committed to having these rebuilt there was a set for sale on EBAY. Canada if I remember correctly. Guess we're 'off thread' here but that happens.

Does anyone have a copy of the STC so that one could read it before deciding whether or not to buy it?
