7AC Top Cowl

Post by Sonny Brown »

Any help greatly appreciated. We are very in need of a hinged top cowling for our 7AC. Wag is out of stock so right now Univair is the option. Would be interested in a good used one if anybody has one or knows of one. Has anyone purchased one from Univair and if so how was the fit? Also, if anyone knows of another source i would love to hear about it. Thanks in advance,

Sonny- Have you tried these guys? They come across a lot of old projects and barn stuff.

Sonny,
They all fit slightly different. Anything from Univair I've always been satisfied, they have PMA on many parts. Never been satisfied with anything from W/A, it's almost right. The stuff fron Safe-Air is a different story, but they have to be out of the Safe-Air inventory they bought. W/A also buys a lot of stuff from Univair to re-sell.

If price is not a major issue, give Harry Fenton a call. He fabricated a hinged top cowl for my 7Ac and did an excellent job. He is located at Bartow, FL (863) 533-7970.

I bought a top cowl from WA. It was wrong. Checked it against the print to prove it wrong. WA did make it right. They had me show proof that I cut it up and refunded my money. Bought one from Univair and it was correct. I hinged it myself.

Hi Sonny: I take it you have a top cowl that already fits, and fastners are stock Champ fastners, or a reasonable faxsimuily, Buy some 1 inch piano hindge, some rivits and go to work. If it's done with some care and good mesurements it will really fit well, I also cut a 337, just to keep it in the house. A fellow Aviator Sunny
