Considering an engine upgrade for the Champ I have come across an ad on Barnstormers for an engine mount. The ad says the mount is for an A65/75 or C85 but not for C90 or O-200.
Can anyone enlighten me as to what the difference might be between a mount for an A65 and an O-200?

Engine Mounts - Different Kinds?
Re: Engine Mounts - Different Kinds?
I suspect the only difference might be the length of the mount. I don't have the numbers in front of me but it seems the mount for the C90 and 0200 is about one inch or so longer. I think the same for the -12 engines with starters. Having said that I have the short mount on my 7BCM (L16A) with the Wagner 0200 STC. The tubing thickness is the same (.035) on both factory mounts. The down side is that there is not a lot of room between the back of the engine and the firewall so it might be necessary to loosen the mounts to remove the starter or magnetos. I have the Sky-Tec starter (short) on mine rather than the original which would require a 'dishpan' into the firewall for clearance.
Hope this helps!

Re: Engine Mounts - Different Kinds?
Thanks Mike,
Since I don't need a starter I assume that I shall be able to use the same mount.

Re: Engine Mounts - Different Kinds?
he may be referring to the mounting bolt size. The 65 mounts is for a 7/16 bolt whereas the 0200 with lord mounts uses a 3/8 bolts.

Ah! That makes sense, then.
Thanks!

Re: Engine Mounts - Different Kinds?
The C-90 motor mount (PN 4-884) is approximately 2" longer than the C65 mount (PN 4-585). As mentioned above the 4-884 mount was used on the 7EC aircraft to provide additional engine to firewall clearance for the mags, starter, and generator. Use of the 4-884 motor mount positions the engine 2" farther forward, which also requires a different engine cowling. I used the 4-884 mount on my plane. I have not been able to find a copy of the longer 7EC engine cowling drawings. I replaced my cowling using the old cowling as a pattern. You can find a copy of my field approval for using this mount at: http://johnpropst.yolasite.com/

John,
In all my googling and yahooing on Aeronca aircraft I have never run across your website. It has a LOT of useful information. I thank you for putting it together. It is very well done and easy to navigate.

Re: Engine Mounts - Different Kinds?
I,am in the middle of a C-75-12 upgrade on my Champ, it’s costly, it seems the A-65 original engine mount along with the reinforcement in the boot cowl, which has nothing to do with the engine mount is installed I hung the engine, and will agree that to remove or loosen the rubber mounts are a must in servicing the accessories. I also, have a tapered shaft, why I don’t know, but I had to do a little tweaking on the engine cowl to get my prop clearance off the nose bowl. Including some baffle rework, that O-200 mount really tweaks the entire system, I,thought about doing that, but soon realized the Oh shit involved in that 2 inch change.
