Throttle and trim knobs

If anybody is interested I searched all over the web for a knob to replace the throttle and trim knobs on my Champ. These are available from Amazon. They are pretty close. The shape is slightly different, the size is just slightly different. They are a textured finish instead of smooth. They are plastic, and use a nut for the insert. The thread size is 10-24 and the screw right on without issue. One photo is the only original knob I have, the other is the new one that I found. Then a shot side by side. Believe it or not I spent a lot time hunting these down. Anyway if you want something close to the original look and not terribly expensive here ya go. The part number of the knobs is AN04-B2-L-21 and they are made by Innovative Components. Oh, don't try to machine the recess in the back of these like the originals as the insert (nut) will fall out!! you just have to use them like the are.

In the 1960s I noticed mine on the J-3 were getting kinda ratty. I was rebuilding at the time, so every night I would coat them with a layer of that stuff one uses on surfboard fiber glass. I think it was Polyester resin.

Anyway, here it is a half century later, and they are still elegant. One has a little crack in it, but otherwise they look just great. They wouldn't unscrew anyway. . . .

On the other hand, the Decathlon has screw- on knobs, and they are one click this side of elegant.
