blind rivets on tailfeathers?

Post by John Welna »

Does anyone know if you can use blind rivets on tailfeathers? Obviously, they are steel and are plenty strong to take a rivet.

I believe there is an STC for using blind rivets on some Aeronca models; by making oversized holes in the tail surfaces.

ACA in Rochester, Wis will sell you a handfull of the large dia headed 1/8" shank aluminum pull rivets. I have some at the airport and if you send me your phone no. I will call you with the part no of them. Your local Fastenal may have supplies of the rivets. Gordy in Minnesota

Large Flange Blind aluminum Rivets

Use these 1/8" dia. "Pop" rivets to attach fabric to the ribs on Champion/Bellanca aircraft.

I'm not certain that you don't need field approval to use these on the tail surfaces. There is not much metal back there and to use on the wings you needed to have the new thicker ribs.
