Elevator control stop adjust issue
Elevator control stop adjust issue
I mistakenly posted this on restorations attaching stringers. I am recovering my fuselage, rudder, elevators. I did a dry fit and rigged my elevator trim and rudder cables measuring where the cut thru the fabric would be, the old cover was off and had been repaired several times. I’ve been reassembling the fuselage and noticed a repair that was made to the fuselage elevator stop. I disassembled the elevator and recovered it, that’s when I discovered the Elevator right down stop was bent and torqued or twisted to the right. And is off to the right of the stop, almost off the stop, the head of the bolt was filed, so it would hit flat on the elevator fuselage stop. The part on the elevator is a stamped part and thick hard steel welded to the right elevator, My question is has anyone seen this on their 7AC Champ, is this from manufacturing or damage done by wind or an accident, everything else looks fine no cracks and the elevator is straight? Lines up and mounts with the Clivis pins finger tight. Also the down stop bolt was not the right hardware, corse thread and was very loose on the elevator mount bracket, when the AN-4 bolt was installed that’s when I realized what happened.
Re: Elevator control stop adjust issue
Well I slept on my issue with my Right elevator, got up Saturday morning used mek and softened the poly tack and removed the fabric half way down the elevator. Got out my torch and got the bent part red hot, got my glove on and a long punch and straightened that bent part, quenched it in 10 weight room temp oil little fire their, but not bad guess I should have used 30 wt oil, but the 10 weight oil did the trick, I wire brushed it and will mask it after I reinstall that fabric, did that, drying now,our weather is perfect for poly brush, first coat, next 3 days getter done!
