I am restoring an Aeronca TC and am installing a C85. What carb heat air box should I use? My IA will want to see references guiding the selection.
have a new JH-3 style reproduction box from WAG. Can I use that?

Jerry-
Look to AC 23-27 for guidance
https://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/med ... _23-27.pdf
The box needs to fit the carburetor that is approved for your C-85 and then adapted to fit your TC.

Jerry,
The box uses the little square filter about 5" square and an inch and a half thick. The top of the box attaches to the carb and the lower section slides off with a single screw holding it in place. If I can get a photo of one I'll post it.

Is the airbox shown in Dwg 4-496 the one you are referring to? I have one of those that is in pretty ratty shape but I could spruce it up and use it if I have to. Dwg 4-496 says the filter element is an Airmaze Type R-72. Google says that Aircraft Spruce sells it but their picture doesn't resemble the drawing.
Following Richard's recommendation, I will study AC 23-27 and se if I can find a way to use a new box.

I can't find a clear photo of one. It slides onto the upper plate and secures with a couple screws. many of the 40-44 aircraft had them. My guess they were produced by an outside vendor.
