I am looking for opinions regarding replacing the Fuel cells in my Sedan with Metal Tanks instead of having the Cells repaired or overhauled.
I will be replacing the Spar Caps on both wings, so this may be a good time to do the mod..Thank you
Metal Fuel Tanks
Re: Metal Fuel Tanks
Welcome to the Forum. I would do it. Paid for too many bladder repairs / replacements in my flying lifetime.

Re: Metal Fuel Tanks
I understand that you lose fuel capacity with the metal tanks. That would hurt due to the slow speed the 15AC cruises at.
Re: Metal Fuel Tanks
Gives you a great excuse to Pop In to airports and check them out when you need to get fuel. I remember a lot of very expensive repairs, replacements and then there was the leaks with the fuel bladders I had in my 182.

Re: Metal Fuel Tanks
There is a misconception about the metal tanks.
The tanks must be "PLACARDED" 17 US Gallons because the person(s) that got the original STC did not isolate one of the tanks to run it dry
to check unusable fuel when they landed after the test.
FAA required this placard.
I have measured the tanks and they will hold 18.4 gallons. The best part is, is that they don't collapse.
FYI we now have new, urethane 1-3709 fuel tank filler neck seals. These are cast from UV resistant urethane.
They sell for $35.00 each plus shipping. Shipping is by Priority Mail Flat Rate Box.
