Propeller question

Hello all,

I currently have the Wagner STC for an O235 on my Champ project. The prop listed in the STC is Sensenich 76A M6. The prop that came with the project is 76A M3. Can anyone tell me the difference between the two? I tried the Sensenich website but couldn't download the page due to computer problems.

Also, McCauly makes a prop that is also listed in the STC. Any preference between the two manufactures?

I believe that second number is what's subtracted from the original length. So the prop you have is 73 inches long, as aposed to 70 inches. Example:

76M6-54

76 - is the original cast length
M - is the blade design
6 - is what's removed at the factory (in this case overall length is now 70")
54 - is the pitch

McCauleys de-code like this:
1b90CM71/44

1b90 - Blade design
C - Continental Flange (L-Lycoming, F-Franklin)
M - Tip style (M is squared off, F is rounded)
71 - Length
44 - Pitch

As for McCauley vs. Sensenich, they're both good props. It will really comes down to personal prefference i.e. blade tip, profile, etc... Historically McCauleys have been better at the hole shot, and Sensenich's were better at cruise, but this is certainly not the law.

Thanks for the info guys. I misread the number following the M, it is an 8 not a three. I'll contact them and find out more.
