I FOUND ONE! (LSA Champ Wanted out West)

I FOUND ONE! JUST GOT IT HOME

A friend and I have been shopping for a Champ for a couple months now and have not made the right connection yet, so I thought I'd try this approach.

We are looking for a Light-Sport eligible Champ we won't have to work on for a long time, i.e., one that has been thoroughly reconditioned in the past 10 or 12 years. It doesn't have to be a fine, hand-crafted piece of furniture, just a clean, smooth-running, lightweight, sturdy machine.

We would PREFER 85 or more hp with at least one wing tank and the option to add a starter when we get too old to yard on the prop. We don't need an electrical system or a lot of gadgets that add weight.

Here's the tricky part - we'd like to find one in the western half of N. America. There's a hundred of 'em back east (how can that be?), but it's slim pickins out west.

If you know of someone who is contemplating selling their cream-puff Champ, please pass the word. It will continue its legacy as a pampered classic flying machine with us.

Have you tried Barnstormers.com. Several on there but not sure the locations. Just click on browse adds button, then antique classic, then Aeronca.

Good idea. I do check Barnstormers, Trade-a-Plane, Controller, Aircraft Dealer.com, General Aviation News, AOPA classified, Airplane Trader, and the classified on this site. I've found some nice airplanes in Florida and other eastern and midwestern US areas, but not much selection out west.

I was hoping to get the attention of someone on this side of the rockies who is considering selling his Champ, but hasn't advertised it yet. I hear a lot of transactions for nice airplanes happen by word of mouth.

I found a "cream-puff" Champ in Redding and am in the final stages of the purchase. Hope to have it home for the new year.
