After much consideration I have decided to sell the Sedan Type Certificate. Be advised this is NOT a fire sale.
I have other commitments in my life that I must take care of first and will not be able to give the Sedan the attention it deserves.
The sale would include all data, drawings, related STCs (13 at this time), current inventory, all tooling, fixtures and peculiar materials related to Sedan only parts.
I have added substantially to the original data and what I bought in July of 2000. We have over 100+ part numbers in our catalog now where there were none and currently have more coming.
Sale price is $500,000.00. Please, serious inquiries only!
Perhaps a group of owners could form a corpration and make the purchase.

this is quite a shock to me as a Sedan fan and owner! Your service will not be matched by any successor, that I am convinced of. But, as Joe already said, of course you do need to do what is best for you, no question. Just to let you know, I always did and still do very much appreciate your great, dependable and prompt service and your attitude towards the business and the clients. Your quitting will be a great loss for the Aeronca community! In any case, I sure hope, you will be taking that trip to Bavaria and stop by in Switzerland for a Sedan flight, some day!

am I too far off to ask the question if the NAA, or its members, could actually buy and manage a type certificate such as the Sedan's? Then outsource the production of parts, but keep the control over the TC? Maybe even an NAA member is in the metal business and would be willing to manufacture parts ordered by NAA members. Maybe other Aeronca type TC's could also be acquired over time. This would prevent that anyone just buys a TC, but then doesn't serve the community. On the other hand, I know nothing about the US rules and legislation and whether an association is allowed to figure as a TC holder, but not make parts themselves. Also, if the NAA would have the resources to deal with something like that at all.

I would buy it all myself but do not have that kind of money sitting around! Did play the lotto last night but have not checked the numbers, but doubt that I won millions so will have to keep working for a living. I love my Chief but really want a Sedan and feel that it really needs to have a good "mentor" to keep the parts and information flowing out to the owners.
The NAA already owns the type certificate for various airplanes and no doubt that they would as well love to own the Sedan type and all the STC's. Same problem as above in that we do not have the funds for this type of purchase at this time.
Would really like to see someone get involved in this who would make it work as well or better than Burl has done, and keep it out of the hands of "big business" so to speak.
Lets see what happens and hope it works out for the best.

How about making a poll within the NAA and possibly other Aeronca clubs to find out how many Aeronca (Sedan) owners are interested in securing the TC and would be willing to throw in some money? Or adressing all the Sedan owners directly with a short letter? (I have done that, before, to find a Sedan project.)
I don't believe that 500'000 would come together, but it could at least give us some idea.
Could a polling function be integrated into the website without too much work, Joe?

To answer any other questions out there; I will continue to support the Sedan and supply parts for now.
Emails and phoned in questions will be answered. I'm not closing the doors just yet but I am selling the TC.
I would suggest that you get any parts orders to me so I can plan production.
Note that we just finished a large production run of metal fuel tanks. We have about 8 sets in stock.

First, I would like to thank those who have contacted me regarding the Sedan TC sale but judging by the "condolences" I'm receiving in emails I would like to clearify what this all means.
I have the Sedan Type Certificate, etc., for sale. The Sedan is not dead, parts are still available and orders will be processed as before. I don't expect the TC to sell in the morning. It doesn't make much business sense to sell something without a healthy customer base. If it does sell you owners will be the first to know.
So, that being said, all the projects that I am working on, oil cooler removal included, will still be moving ahead. These new items only make the data more valuable and worth the price.
