low and slow: I had checked both the old tire and the new one in the picture. Both were out about the same amount. This is when the weight was added. Problem solved. I guess Nate missed the other spring link picture that I sent him. In it the view of the links and heavy duty springs are shown. Although the beefy springs minimize the shimmy, it would not stop it. If you want massive shimmy, then by all means use Maules light and heavy combo. I've said it before and will say it again, that setup is retarded on the pneumatics. The solid tailwheel most times won't shimmy regardless of pivot angles and springs. That's because have better ballance and heavier than the pneumatics, even though it's said otherwise on the spec sheet. 1 pound difference was what I weighed them at.

Ron:
I have a solid rubber tail wheel. Never had a problem in 7 years/450hrs.
Why would anyone would go to an inflatable one?
In the other hand, in my Altzheimer memory, I believe you have shoulder harness in your Champ. Can you give some advise on them?

pablo: I have both the solid and pneumatic. Liked the ride on the air tire much more than the solid, but always had some shimmy on pavement. That is now history, so the solid collects dust in the basement. If I was on paved runways all the time the solid would be fine. Don't care much for the bearings in the solid wheel. They seem to get loose in no time , where the air tire has tapered timpkins that never seem to wear.
I have a Hooker setup in mine. Came that way. Not sure I'd even get in a plane without a shoulder harness any more. Always picture my head in the instrument panel. Well worth putting a set in, regarless of make. Hooker seems like an easy install.
