Can someone tell me if there is an STC to install just the Dorsal Fin on a 7ac. Thanks... Ken Patry[/u]
Ken,
I don't believe I've ever seen a STC for just the dorsal fin. I kind of scanned the STC list and didn't see it. As there are probably hundreds of 7AC's with 65's running around with large dorsal fins on them (I have one) I can't imagine where it would be a problem putting one on if you want to....although, as you're probably aware, they're usually part of a conversion. Some owners think they spoil the 'clean' looks of the orginal Aeronca. Having flown both, small and large, I think the large dorsal feels more stable in the air, but that's just a personal opinion.
If nothing else, it should be easy to get a 337 to install one (famous last words
).

Thanks Mike...
I like the looks of the big fin, I know it's not original, but if I ever decide to upgrade the engine, I'll be part way. I've already installed in the braces up front and a wing tank, so I think I will put the large fin on. Thanks again.
Cheers

Ken Patry: I have to agree with Mike on the fin being more stable. In turbulence the small tail wags it's tail more.

Before you believe anything I say, check with two more people. If they agree, I must be right.

Thanks everybody, that answers my question... I will do a 377 or what ever it is called up here in the great white north.
