New purchase ..... Big Smile

Post by drjeff »

Hello group! I have been looking for a champ for sometime now. On 12/27/06 I became the proud owner of N83451, a 1946 7ac 65 hp that was based in Lake Elmo, MN.

I had a buddy of mine fly me up from Birmingham, AL in has 1947 Beech v-tail. The trip up to MN took roughly 6 hours in the bonanza. The trip back home from MN took nearly 12 hours and 6 stops! I must say that it was a wonderful trip. Except for a little headwind, the weather turned out really nice for December.

We had a lite dusting of snow Thursday morning and temps around freezing. The further south I made it, the more layers of clothing I had to remove. It was nice having Fred in the V-tail playing leap frog with us. He made sure gas, food, motel, and cars were availible. If any of you get a chance to stop in Mt. Vernon, IL, the guys there were terriffic. the hangered both planes, loaned us the van and pointed us in the direction of town. Very nice place to stop if your in the area.

Enough rambling, I plan to write down more details of the trip and place with pictures in the future. I'm still on cloud nine with the biggest Aeronca grin on my face. The plane is just too much fun! Once I figure out how to post pictures, they will follow.

drjeff,

Congratulations on your purchase, looks good. I had to do the same thing, Virginia to Oklahoma, when I bought my Champ a year and a half ago. Had a blast then and it hasn't stopped yet. Happy New Year.
