wheel pants

Post by MikeB »

How are the wheel pants attached on a Champ? I had pants on my Cherokee and they were attached at the axle (inboard) and on the axle outboard. Just trying to picture how they might be attached on a Champ (with Goodyears if that makes a difference).

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

There is usually a plate that attaches where the brake caliper bolts on, then that plate bolts to the wheel pant.

I have a couple of photos but no time to upload them right now.

Mike,

Most I've seen pick up the lower oleo bolt and then have tube slid into the axel with a bolt welded on the end for the outboard side.

Don't why those last 2 won''t load? But they still have a good link.

Thanks Joe and Nathan. Answers my question, especially the photos (ain't technology great). I'm trying to pick up a set of wheel pants for my Champ, mostly to keep the struts and bottom of the wings clean, but they often come without the mounting hardware. If so, I can probably manufacture something as it doesn't look that complicated.

Mike,

Believe that I have a set of wheel pants in the hangar. If I get by there today will see if I have some mountain plates with them. If so will try to take photos of what they look like and get you some better photos.

Mike,

Just back from the hangar and found some wheel pant mounting hardware.

Are you still looking for info on this?

Joe,
I think I have enough information from Nathan's post. If I need more I'll let you know. Thanks for the response.

We have a set of original metal wheel pants with our 1946 7AC project. What is the correct color paint? We think it is the fuselage color (yellow). Is there any trim or markings on the wheel pants?

When we bought the airplane the pants and fuselage trim were painted red. In our local area the plane was called "little red shoes".

Thanks.

Mark,

Take a look here: http://www.aeroncapilots.com/13nac_photos.htm

This will let you see how everyone else is painting their wheel covers and let you decide which one you like for your airplane. Many different styles to choose from.

Get them installed on the plane and fly it to Middletown next June and get your plane's photo on the website!

Was it ever determined where to get mounting hardware for Champ wheel pants. I recently picked up a NOS set of wag aero M-050-000 wheel pant s but no mounting hardware. I have looked thru all the catalougs but still cant find anything. Does anyone know of a good set anywhere. I really want to find these items and any help suggestions would be greatly welcomed.

Del,

Just so you all know. I called Mike Utley at wag and he was very informative about the pant mounts that I was inquiring about. He offered a non approved type that was less expensive and an approved type that in his opinion was of better refinement. I was great to get such knowlagble help. Yes they were in the wag catalouge, just not easy for me to pick out exactly what I was looking for.......... Have you ever experienced your looking right at it but still can not see it? That was me. Any way Mike Utley in my opinion is a great asset to us all.
(and also to Wag Aero)

Del,

If you liked Mike on the phone, you would really enjoy talking with him in person!

Pls email the owners of Wag Aero and try to get them to change their minds and come to Middletown!
