When AMR got the MD-11 they started calling them Scud,s. They knew where they launched from but didn't know where they would land.

The Republic 105 was called the" Thud"-- "Lead Sled" and "Wild Weasel"..The McDonnell MD-11 went by the name the "MD 911" The DC-8's were known as the "Diesel 8's". Some 727 were know as "Flagship Falling Rocks"...Then you got the DC-9 variants known as the Mad Dogs. The Airbuses like all things foreign came cheap but the parts were expensive.

My Chief is known as the Sh@t Box..The Champ as mothers furniture..But time flies when you are having fun...

The only "Sleds" that I'm familiar with can fly from coast to coast, in about an hour or less.
They's pretty fast, at around 2400 kts+/-
