Help with a 1/5 scale Champ on Floats

Post by acmeaircraft »

Hello -

I'm a model aircraft builder in California, who is about to start designing a 1/5 scale Champ that I plan to put on floats. This will be an enlargement of a 60" land version kit that I'm finishing very soon - here's a pic of the prototype:

Anyway, like I said, I'm going to make a 1/5 scale (84") float version on a scale set of Edo's. I'm hoping that someone out there with a Champ on floats would be willing to help me with this project. Mainly this would involve taking digital photos of the floats, float struts, rigging and hardware. Also I'm sure some measurements would be very helpful as well. Please contact me at acmeaircraft@comcast.net if you would be willing to help out. Thanks!

Sky,

Glad to see more models of the Aeronca out there.

Not sure why your image is not showing, or it may be my browser only.

Joe -

I agree, there are far too few Aeronca kits out there! Seems most kit makers gravitate towards the Piper/Cessna stuff, and overlook the Aeroncas. I have to say I really fell in love with these planes doing this project. I can see the pic fine on two different computers, so it might just be your browser. I have a thread on the plane here if you want to see more:

I've got a Champ on floats but they are PK 1500's.
My computer is getting repaired at the present so I can't send any pictures. If I remember, I'll send what I have when I get the confuser back. :)

Nathan -

Do you know whose Champ is the one with the blue and yellow stripe down the side? That's EXACTLY the float/plane combo I'm hoping to model. From what I can tell, the first three photos are all of the same plane, right?
