Spacers for Hanlon Wilson Mufflers
Spacers for Hanlon Wilson Mufflers
Just recently upgraded my Hanlon Wilson mufflers. The old ones had
seen better days.
In removing the shrouds, it was discovered that one of the spacers
(that fit between the muffler can-and the shroud) was pretty worn.
It looked melted and had begun to detiorate, and needed replacing.
Does anyone have a source where to purchase such a spacer? There are two sizes of spacers, one for the upper smaller
intake pipes and one larger one for the exhaust stack.
It appears that these spacers are made of aluminum. I've checked with
a few sources, but everyone seems puzzled when asked about their
availability.
Thanks==

Spacers for Hanlon Wilson mufflers
I made a call to Wag Aero, thinking that they would be able to
sell me a spacer or two.
After letting me speak to someone "in the back, " I was told that they didn't sell them.
So I am asking myself, what do the Hanlon Wilson Mufflers from
Wag Aero use, for spacing?
Then I tried another place that was reputable for Hanlon Wilson mufflers.
They said that they thought that Cessna had some for their mufflers, but the price for them was about $200.

Hanlon Wilson Exhaust Shroud Seals
Good Morning, I have done some research concerning the above mentioned Hanlon Wilson seals. The only place I can find that makes/carries these seals, part number 193-0002 and 193-0003, is acorn welding in Alberta, Canada. They are $23 each, are not pma'd and are carried by them under the Cessna 150 part number but ask for them as Aeronca parts. I have calls out to more places but this is the only positive response that I have received so far. I will post more information as it is received.
Thanks

Hanlon Wilson Spacers
I called Dawley, and they just got back to me with an answer.
They didn' t seem to have any either, but had provided a few phone numbers.
Can't believe that such an integral part of the muffler, is not
available.
I knew that I couldn't possibly be the only one that this happened to.

You can make your own if there's a good metal supplier close by. Find the heaviest walled aluminum tubing you can. ID and OD aren't that critical because it only acts as a make shift seal; it only has to go over the stack.
For what it's worth; Dawley built up my Hanlon-Wilson's from a junk core, but didn't make the shrouds. So I made them myself and kept the gap as small as possible, then omitted the seals all together. Haven't had a problem yet and have enough heat to choke the devil.

I spoke with these guys some time back. They quoted me a complete Hanlon Wilson exhaust system for my Champ. So I guess they could provide the parts you are looking for.

Sorry Nate......that was just a stupid statement on my part
.
I already have a Cessna 150 exhaust system on my Champ and rerouting for the tail pipes is the problem with the 150 exhaust as the pipes come out behind the original Champ exhaust holes so either you make new holes further back or your modify the tail pipes to fit the original holes, unlike the HW system that fits the original holes.
Having said that, the 150 system is a good fit though and has much better heat than the old "Y" pipe system. If and when I get the 0200 engine in my L16, I'm going to see about using the 150 exhaust and make a new lower cowl with the holes to fit the system.
