Aeronca 7AC - 85hp - are you required to have the big fin?

Is it recommended or required to have the big dorsal fin when you convert to the 85hp engine?

It's not required to have the large fin per SL 13. I own both style and don't see a difference in the flying. In fact ACA's new LSA has a small fin with 100HP and I haven't heard any concerns.

I have an 85 hp, all elecrtic conversion with the small fin. The restorer even got the Feds to sign off on increase of gross weight to 1300 without large fin.

The large fin does affect crosswind capability some - I don't want that big sail.
