Microlon Engine Treatment
Microlon Engine Treatment
Does anyone have any experience with the Microlon Engine Treatment? It is FAA approved per their website at www.microlon.com, but I wanted to hear from some end users.
Thanks,

nate- if I didn't see with my own eyes what the mmo did to my valve sticking problem this summer, I would have been a skeptic too! mmo has been around so long and has no real unseen bad characteristics. We have a little "trust" with the product. With that in mind new products often get pooh-hooed until they attain a certain reputation. Problem is...who wants to be the guinea pig to find out if a product works or not. my 2 cents

I don't know about mirollon.
But I wonder if other have used Camguard oil additive.
The reason why I ask is that "Aviation Consumer" did tests on various oils and their finding was the best prevention of rust was Phillips 20W50 with Camguard additive. This slightly edged out both Aeroshell 15W50 and Exon Elite.
I'm especially concerned because of the rust prevention for the less active winter months. I know I will not fly as much in the winter for a lot of reasons. One is that it is dark out after work each day. And who knows how many times the weather will be good on the weekends then add snow removal duties, preheating and so on.
Therefore I want to keep my engine as healthy and rust free as I can.
Anyone use CamGuard?

I think Consumer Aviation did an article on Microlon Engine Treatment a number of years ago. I recall bottom line of the article said there was no evidence that Microlon Engine Treatment produce any positive or negative results. I will freely admit that my mind is feeble and I may not remember the article very well. You might want to check it out.

What is your mix rate on the MMO? In gas only or oil also?

Two gulps of the large bottle per 5 gallon of mogas. I know some of the scientific types on the group will cringe when they read my measuring meathod but, it works for me.
Once in a while I use 100LL and still use MMO when I have to use 100LL. I try very hard to only use mogas especially when I filled up my 5 gallon cans today at $2.14 per gallon and the avgas $4.67 today.
I don't use MMO in the oil. I use phillips X/C 20w50 year round.

Consumers here in Oklahoma to include non pilots have put up a serious fight to keep ethanol out. About half the gas stations here sell gas without ethenol. Of course, the guys don't trust a sticker on the pump so they have been checking the contents for ethenol and to this point what we are buying has remained free of ethenol.
Politics aside, I think ethanol will probably fade away eventually as it's really not cost effective. Some will tell you that it is but when all costs are added into the production it seems to me it would be a minus factor (without the government subsidy at least). Having said that, the farm and tree hugger lobbists are basically keeping the ball rolling for now. So, I suppose thats where the politics comes in. It is, of course, an octane enhancer so something else has to take it's place in the production. Big business up here but I can still get auto fuel without ethanol if I buy premium. The other factor in the future is: how are they going to get the lead out of the 100LL? Weren't they working on something called UL for aircraft engines? Here again, we're probably talking a limited market that must be controlled from refinery to delivery so I suspect the cost will be much higher than auto fuel.
Be interesting
to watch over the next couple of years. I did note OPEC just cut production by 2 million barrels a day to help keep the price of crude up
