Cable Naugahyde Installations

My champ has holes in the side of the fusalage where the control cables come out. I want to put the little teardrop shaped naugahyde covers on to make it look a little better. What is the best thing to glue then on with. Thanks Mike

The first time I used contact cement. It lasted pretty good but is messy and leaves a hard to clean off overflow around the patch. This time I used something I got from WalMart. However, I believe I left it in the hanger. If I'm down there today, I'll see what it is. It was less messy and dries clear. Actually, about any of the auto store trim cements should work.

I use Pliobond cement for those tasks. Bought it at Spruce but you can get it other places.

I use the Pliobond also. If need to, you can mask the area to help reduce the mess. Follow the directions and it really holds.

Well, whatever it was, I can't find it. I believe it was like 3M trim cement. However, Paul and Doug's use of Pliobond sounds good to me. Think I'll get a tube of that to replace whatever it was I lost. roger

I found a 3 oz. bottle of Pliobond at Ace Hardware for less than $5.00. It is a good deal cheaper with no shipping. Thanks for the help guys. Mike

Since I put 'em on over Poly-Tone, I used Poly-Tak. If they come off, what shows underneath will almost certainly be pink...

Cecobond??? or the new glue with the Stewart system (which looks like the old Cecobond I'm familiar with) worked okay for me, even on my Poly-Tone. A friend was covering Pietenpols with Stewart and my leather patches were peeling off, so we tried some of his glue. No problems so far.

I've never had good luck glueing down patches; they always seem to fold up on the corners and/or the glue will show. I've gotten to the point I put a fabric patch over the naugahide patch.

I used small stainless fairings under a doiley. I was not thinking of close tolerence to cable,wish I had. The extra clearance is just another place for moisture and crud to get into.
