leading egde

Hi folks -- redoing my wings right now and a very experience mechanic told me to run the leading edge 4" past the spar for increased cruise speed. Anyone tried this? Anyone think it would help as well?

Not sure how it would help but its not according to the Aeronca blueprint so it would require a field approval.

Not sure about speed. By extending the leading edge, it helps maintain the the true airfoil section longer; instead of the scalloping you normally see. Is it worth it...???
